ABOUT US

ABOUT BEPHOTOGRAPHER

Hi, I’m Jan, the person behind BePhotographer.com and co-author of these books—honest guides to the business side of photography. I’m not a millionaire photographer or a globe-trotting creative with endless resources. I’m not famous. I don’t get assignments from National Geographic, and I wasn’t a member of a landing party in war zones. Only the best of the best can do that.

I’m a part-time photographer who understands the challenges of balancing passion with reality. Most of my work involves corporate portraits, small weddings, and local events. Over the years, I’ve learned a lot about the financial, marketing, and operational side of photography—what works and, more importantly, what doesn’t. I’m here to cut through the noise and give you the real story about making money with photography. Many books and online courses promise instant success. Mine offer realism paired with actionable advice.

MY MISSION

Many aspiring photographers are bombarded with dream big content that oversells the promise of immediate success. My goal is to offer a more grounded perspective. Photography can bring you income and satisfaction, but it’s a journey, not an overnight transformation. I’m here to help you set realistic expectations, find your niche, and build a sustainable business that fits your life—whether that’s part-time or, for a few, maybe even full-time.

BePhotographer is affiliate-free website strictly focused on the business. You won’t find camera tutorials, editing tips, or technical hacks—you already have the skills to capture great photos. And if you don’t, there are plenty of other resources out there. Instead, I’m here to help you navigate the practical challenges of making a  living from photography From building a portfolio and finding clients to pricing your work, marketing your brand, and managing your time and finances, this site (and these books) are designed to give you the tools and insights you need to succeed.

MY APPROACH

As a part-time photographer myself, I know how difficult it can be to break into the industry full-time. Over the years, I’ve shifted my focus away from shooting gigs—tired of the endless travel, unpredictable schedules, and working for other people. Instead, my work now revolves around helping starting photographers build successful, profitable businesses—because I know firsthand how challenging it can be to turn creativity into profit.

For most of us, starting small and growing steadily is the best path forward. I keep things realistic, practical, and trustworthy—no sugar-coating, no hype, no false hopes. Just straightforward advice tailored to the challenges most part-time photographers face when trying to turn their passion into a sustainable source of revenue.
